MHT CET 2027: exam date, pattern, syllabus and how to apply

MHT CET is Maharashtra's entrance test for first-year engineering, technology, pharmacy, B.Planning and agriculture-related degrees. It is held by the State Common Entrance Test Cell, Maharashtra. Students preparing for 2027 mostly want the exam date, and as of 20 October 2026 the State CET Cell had not announced the MHT CET 2027 schedule on cetcell.mahacet.org. Its home page still showed the 2026–27 admission process, along with a call for subject experts to set papers for the 2027–28 CETs. In 2026 the PCM group's first attempt ran from 11 to 20 April 2026, and a second attempt followed in May.

2026 was the first year with two attempts, and a candidate who sat both was judged on the better total percentile. Whether 2027 keeps two attempts had not been published. The information brochure, application window and dates will be on cetcell.mahacet.org.
How to apply for MHT CET
The steps below follow the 2026 process; read the 2027 brochure when it is out.
- Open cetcell.mahacet.org and go to the CET (examination) portal for the new academic year.
- Register with your own mobile number and email, and choose the group: PCM, PCB, or both.
- Choose the language of the question paper (English, Marathi or Urdu). It cannot be changed afterwards.
- Fill in your personal, educational and category details as the form asks.
- Upload your photograph, signature and the documents the brochure lists.
- Pay the fee online and save the confirmation page.
Remember that the CET is only the first step. Admission is through the CET Cell's separate centralised admission process (CAP), with its own registration and brochure. A percentile does not by itself give you a seat.
Exam pattern
| PCM group | Questions | Marks each | Total | Time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Physics | 50 | 1 | 50 | First 90 minutes, shared with Chemistry |
| Chemistry | 50 | 1 | 50 | |
| Mathematics | 50 | 2 | 100 | Next 90 minutes |
| Total | 150 | 200 | 180 minutes |
| PCB group | Questions | Marks each | Total | Time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Physics | 50 | 1 | 50 | First 90 minutes, shared with Chemistry |
| Chemistry | 50 | 1 | 50 | |
| Biology | 100 | 1 | 100 | Next 90 minutes |
| Total | 200 | 300 | 180 minutes |
- No negative marking. A wrong or blank answer scores 0, so answer every question.
- At 90 minutes the Physics and Chemistry part is submitted automatically. Time left over is lost, not carried to Mathematics or Biology.
- Results are percentiles within each session, not marks, because papers differ between shifts.
MHT CET syllabus
Questions follow the Maharashtra State Board (SCERT) syllabus: about 20% from a fixed list of Standard XI chapters and 80% from the whole Standard XII syllabus. The CET Cell says the level is that of JEE Main for Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, and of NEET for Biology, and that questions are mainly application based.
Class 11 and Class 12: how many questions from each
| Subject | From Class 11 (Std XI) | From Class 12 (Std XII) | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Physics | 10 | 40 | 50 questions, 50 marks |
| Chemistry | 10 | 40 | 50 questions, 50 marks |
| Mathematics (PCM) | 10 | 40 | 50 questions, 100 marks |
| Biology (PCB) | 20 | 80 | 100 questions, 100 marks |
So four questions in five come from Class 12, and only the listed Class 11 chapters are asked. If time is short, finish the Class 12 State Board syllabus first.
- Physics: rotational dynamics, gravitation, fluids, kinetic theory and thermodynamics, oscillations and waves, optics, electrostatics and current electricity, magnetism, EMI and AC, dual nature, atoms, nuclei and semiconductors.
- Chemistry: solid state and solutions, ionic equilibria, thermodynamics, electrochemistry and kinetics, p-, d- and f-block elements, coordination compounds, organic chemistry from hydrocarbons to biomolecules and polymers.
- Mathematics: mathematical logic, matrices and linear programming, trigonometric and inverse trigonometric functions, straight lines, pairs of lines, circles and conics, vectors, lines and planes, complex numbers, permutations and combinations, limits and differentiation, integration and differential equations, probability distributions.
See our MHT CET syllabus page for the list.
A plan for the months that are left
If 2027 follows 2026, the first attempt is about six months away.
| Period | What to do |
|---|---|
| Now to January | Finish the Standard XII State Board chapters and the Standard XI chapters on the CET list. One full mock a fortnight, with the 90 + 90 split. |
| February to the board exams | Boards first. One timed Physics-and-Chemistry half each weekend. |
| After the boards | Three full mocks a week, then revision from your error log in the final week. |
Speed is the whole game here: 100 Physics and Chemistry questions in 90 minutes is under a minute each. Since there is no negative marking, never leave a question blank; mark your best guess and flag it to revisit. In PCM, Mathematics carries 2 marks a question, so it is half your total. See how to use mock tests and how to analyse a mock test.

Frequently asked questions
When is the MHT CET 2027 exam?
The State CET Cell had not announced it as of 20 October 2026. In 2026 the PCM first attempt was from 11 to 20 April and a second attempt followed in May.
Is there negative marking in MHT CET?
No. A wrong answer scores 0, the same as a blank, so attempt every question.
Can I take both PCM and PCB?
Yes. You may take one group or both. Marks in one group are not carried over to the other.
How is the MHT CET result calculated?
Raw marks are converted into a percentile within your session, to seven decimal places, for the total and each subject. Admission uses the total percentile, which is not the average of the subject percentiles.
Is MHT CET easier than JEE Main?
The CET Cell says the level is that of JEE Main for Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The difference is speed and marking: more questions per minute, and no negative marking.
What is the MHT CET syllabus based on?
The Maharashtra State Board (SCERT) syllabus: about 20% from listed Standard XI chapters and 80% from Standard XII.
How much of the MHT CET syllabus is from Class 12?
About 80%. In Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, 40 of each subject's 50 questions come from Class 12 and 10 from a fixed list of Class 11 chapters; in Biology it is 80 of 100.
