NEET (UG), the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for undergraduates, is the entrance test for MBBS, BDS and the AYUSH degrees in India, and it is run by the National Testing Agency (NTA). If you are aiming for 2027, the first thing to know is that the NEET UG 2027 exam date has not been announced yet (checked 20 October 2026). The NTA's examination calendar, published on 16 September 2026, runs only to March 2027 and does not include NEET, and the NEET site still shows the 2026 cycle. In 2026 the exam was first held on Sunday 3 May, and the NTA's notices show a re-examination on 21 June 2026.

NEET UG 2027 exam date

As of 20 October 2026, the NTA has not given a date for NEET (UG) 2027. The 2026 cycle is the best guide to the shape of the year:

Event (2026 cycle) Date
Online application 8 February to 8 March 2026 (9:00 p.m.)
Correction window 10 to 12 March 2026
Exam Sunday 3 May 2026, 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Re-examination (per NTA notices) 21 June 2026

The 2027 information bulletin, application dates and exam date will be published on neet.nta.nic.in, and the NTA's general calendar is on nta.ac.in. Do not rely on dates quoted elsewhere until they appear there.

How to apply for NEET UG

These steps follow the 2026 bulletin; the 2027 bulletin will confirm them.

  1. Read the information bulletin on neet.nta.nic.in when it is published, especially the eligibility chapter.
  2. Register with your own mobile number and email.
  3. Fill in the form: personal and Class 10 and 12 details, category, the medium of the question paper and your choice of exam cities.
  4. Upload your photograph, signature and any certificates the bulletin asks for (category, disability).
  5. Pay the fee online before the deadline. The fee in 2026 depended on category and on whether the centre was in India or abroad.
  6. Print the confirmation page. Check your details again in the correction window.

Afterwards come the city intimation slip, the admit card, the provisional answer key and the result, all on the same site.

Eligibility in short (2026 bulletin): you must be at least 17 by 31 December of the exam year; there is no upper age limit. You need Class 12 or an equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Biotechnology, and English, or be appearing for it.

Exam pattern

Subject Questions Marks
Physics 45 180
Chemistry 45 180
Biology (Botany and Zoology) 90 360
Total 180 720
  • Every question has four options with one correct or most appropriate answer.
  • All 180 questions are compulsory and share one 180-minute clock; there is no separate time for each subject.
  • A wrong answer costs 1 mark, so a guess is worth it only when you can rule out options.

NEET UG syllabus

The syllabus is notified by the National Medical Commission (NMC), based on Class 11 and 12.

  • Physics: units and measurement, kinematics, laws of motion, work and energy, rotation, gravitation, properties of matter, thermodynamics and kinetic theory, oscillations and waves, electrostatics, current electricity, magnetism, EMI and AC, optics, dual nature, atoms and nuclei, semiconductors, experiments.
  • Chemistry: basic concepts, atomic structure, bonding, periodicity, thermodynamics, solutions, equilibrium, redox and electrochemistry, kinetics, p-, d- and f-block elements, coordination compounds, organic basics, hydrocarbons, organic compounds with halogens, oxygen and nitrogen, biomolecules, practical chemistry.
  • Biology: diversity in the living world, structural organisation in plants and animals, cell structure and division, photosynthesis, respiration and plant growth, human physiology, reproduction, genetics and evolution, human health and microbes, biotechnology, ecology and biodiversity.

A plan for the months that are left

If NEET 2027 follows the 2026 timetable, you have about six months. A plan that fits that:

Period What to do
Now to December Finish NCERT Biology line by line and every Physics and Chemistry unit. One full mock every two weeks.
January to March One full mock a week, sat in the afternoon to match the real slot. Apply as soon as the form opens.
April to the exam Two full mocks a week on an OMR-style sheet, plus revision from your error log.

Biology is half the paper, so it decides most ranks: aim to finish its 90 questions in about 60 minutes, which leaves 120 for Physics and Chemistry. In every mock, count how many marks the −1 cost you; if it is more than a handful, you are guessing too freely. Our articles on negative marking and how to analyse a mock test go deeper.

Frequently asked questions

When is NEET UG 2027?

The NTA had not announced it as of 20 October 2026. In 2026 the application ran in February and March and the exam was held on 3 May; watch neet.nta.nic.in for the 2027 notice.

Is there negative marking in NEET UG?

Yes. Each wrong answer costs 1 mark and each right answer earns 4. An unanswered question scores 0.

What is the age limit for NEET UG?

You must have turned 17 by 31 December of the exam year. There is no upper age limit.

What is the NEET UG passing mark?

There is no pass mark in marks. Eligibility is by percentile: the 50th percentile for General and General-EWS candidates, the 40th for SC, ST and OBC, and 45th for unreserved candidates with benchmark disabilities. These can be lowered in a year when too few candidates reach them.

Is NEET UG online or offline?

Offline. In 2026 it was a pen-and-paper test with an OMR sheet, in one shift on one day.

Can I take NEET UG in Hindi?

Yes. If you choose Hindi you get a bilingual booklet in English and Hindi. Where a translation is unclear, the English version is final.
