The photo above shows WBJEE candidates revising outside an exam centre in Howrah, just before the paper. WBJEE, the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination, is the state's entrance test for undergraduate engineering, technology, pharmacy and architecture courses, run by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB). We could not confirm a WBJEE 2027 date: the Board's site, wbjeeb.nic.in, did not respond when we tried on 20 October 2026, and we found no 2027 notice from the Board. For reference, the WBJEE-2026 bulletin printed a tentative exam date of 24 May 2026.

WBJEE 2027 exam date

Item Status
WBJEE 2027 Not confirmed: the Board's site could not be read on 20 October 2026
WBJEE 2026 (tentative, from the 2026 bulletin) 24 May 2026: Paper I 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Paper II 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The bulletin for each year is posted on the Board's current events page and the WBJEE page. Check those pages for the 2027 bulletin, application window and date.

How to apply for WBJEE

The Board publishes the full procedure in each year's information bulletin. In outline:

  1. Download the information bulletin from wbjeeb.nic.in and read the eligibility and domicile rules. Many seats need West Bengal domicile.
  2. Register online, as the bulletin explains, with a mobile number and email you will keep using.
  3. Fill in the application and choose whether you will sit both papers or Paper II only (see ranks below).
  4. Upload your photograph, signature and any documents the bulletin asks for, and pay the fee.
  5. Print the confirmation page, and download the admit card when it is released.

If you have a benchmark disability, write to the Board in advance: it may allow twenty minutes of extra time per hour and a scribe.

Which papers to sit: with both papers you get a General Merit Rank (total of both papers), used for engineering, technology, architecture and pharmacy at Jadavpur University, and a Pharmacy Merit Rank (Paper II only), used for other pharmacy courses including Pharm.D. With Paper II alone you get only the Pharmacy Merit Rank. With Paper I alone you get no rank.

Exam pattern

Subject Category-1 Category-2 Category-3 Questions Marks
Mathematics (Paper I, 2 hours) 50 15 10 75 100
Physics (Paper II) 30 5 5 40 50
Chemistry (Paper II) 30 5 5 40 50
Total 155 200

How each category is marked:

Category Correct options Right Wrong
Category-1 One +1 −1/4
Category-2 One +2 −1/2
Category-3 One or more +2 for all correct and no wrong 0 if any wrong option is marked

On a Category-3 question, marking only some of the correct options (and no wrong one) scores 2 × (options marked) ÷ (correct options). Marking two options on a Category-1 or Category-2 question counts as wrong. A darkened bubble cannot be changed, so decide before you shade.

WBJEE syllabus

The syllabus is printed as an appendix to the information bulletin, at the Class 11 and 12 level.

  • Mathematics: algebra, complex numbers, binomial theorem and matrices; sets, probability and statistics; trigonometry; coordinate geometry in two and three dimensions; differential and integral calculus and differential equations; vectors.
  • Physics: units, motion, laws of motion, work and rotation; gravitation, fluids, heat and thermodynamics; oscillations and waves; electrostatics, current, magnetism and EMI; optics, atoms, nuclei and semiconductors.
  • Chemistry: atomic structure, periodicity and bonding; states of matter, thermodynamics, equilibrium and solutions; kinetics, redox and electrochemistry; organic reactions, hydrocarbons and functional groups; biomolecules and coordination compounds.

See our WBJEE syllabus page.

A plan for the months that are left

If 2027 follows 2026, the exam is in late May, about seven months away.

Period What to do
Now to January Finish the Class 12 syllabus and revise Class 11. One full two-paper mock a fortnight, Paper I and Paper II on the same day.
February to the board exams Boards first. One timed Mathematics paper each weekend. Apply when the form opens.
After the boards Three full mocks a week, sat at 11:00 and 2:00 as on the day, marked with the real category rules.

The marking rewards a careful approach. A wrong Category-1 answer costs a quarter of what a right one earns, so a guess is worth it once you have ruled out even one option. Category-3 has no negative mark but gives 0 if you add one wrong option, so mark only the options you are sure of. Read negative marking: when to guess for the reasoning, and how to analyse a mock test.

Frequently asked questions

When is WBJEE 2027?

We could not confirm it: the Board's site could not be read on 20 October 2026. The 2026 bulletin printed a tentative date of 24 May 2026; check wbjeeb.nic.in for the 2027 bulletin.

Is there negative marking in WBJEE?

Yes, in Category-1 (−1/4) and Category-2 (−1/2). Category-3 has no negative mark, but marking any wrong option scores 0 for that question.

Can I sit only Physics and Chemistry in WBJEE?

Yes. If you sit only Paper II you get a Pharmacy Merit Rank, used for pharmacy courses other than at Jadavpur University. You need both papers for engineering.

What is the WBJEE pass mark?

There is no published pass mark. The Board sets a cut-off rank or score for counselling, and the bulletin does not print it.

Is WBJEE online or offline?

Offline. Answers are darkened on an OMR sheet with the blue or black ballpoint pen supplied by the Board.

How are ties broken in WBJEE?

For the General Merit Rank, by fewer negative marks across the three subjects, then by positive marks in set pairs of subjects, then by the two-mark questions, and finally by earlier date of birth.
