How to apply for RBI Assistant

  1. When the advertisement is out, open it on rbi.org.in or opportunities.rbi.org.in and read it in full, especially the list of offices and their languages.
  2. Check eligibility. In the last cycle: a bachelor's degree in any discipline with at least 50% in aggregate (a pass for SC, ST and PwBD), working knowledge of word processing on a PC, and age 20 to 28 on 1 February 2026, with the relaxations in the advertisement.
  3. Choose one office. You must know the official or local language of that office's State, because everyone called takes the Language Proficiency Test in it; no one is exempted.
  4. Register online, upload the scans, and pay the fee shown in that year's advertisement.
  5. Download the call letter and the information handout for each stage from the RBI website.

Keep ready: degree mark sheets showing the aggregate percentage, category and PwBD certificates, a valid email and mobile number, and the scans in the sizes the advertisement asks for.

RBI Assistant exam pattern

From the Panel Year 2025 advertisement and the information handouts:

Stage and test Questions Marks Time
Prelims: English Language 30 30 20 min
Prelims: Numerical Ability 35 35 20 min
Prelims: Reasoning Ability 35 35 20 min
Mains: Reasoning 40 40 30 min
Mains: English Language 40 40 30 min
Mains: Numerical Ability 40 40 30 min
Mains: General Awareness 40 40 25 min
Mains: Computer Knowledge 40 40 20 min

Each test has its own clock. The next test opens only when the current test's time is over, and you cannot go back. You must clear each test and the total; the Bank fixes those cut-offs after the exam and does not print them in the advertisement. About ten times the vacancies are called for the Main, and about twice the vacancies, on the Main aggregate, for the Language Proficiency Test. Scores from different sessions are equated.

RBI Assistant syllabus

  • General Awareness (Main): banking and financial awareness, current affairs, static GK.

The full topic list is on our RBI Assistant syllabus page.

A plan for the months before the notice

In the last cycle the Preliminary came about eight weeks after the advertisement. Use the time before the notice:

  • Now to December: get the three Preliminary tests to speed. 20 minutes for 35 questions is about 34 seconds a question, so drill timed sets of simplification, series and puzzles until they are automatic.
  • January: start the Main-only tests. Computer Knowledge (40 questions in 20 minutes) and General Awareness (40 in 25 minutes) are quick marks that need reading, not drills. Read banking news daily from now on.
  • From February: a full RBI Assistant Preliminary mock test every week, then analyse it test by test, since each test has its own cut-off.
  • After the notice: two mocks a week, and practise speaking and reading the language of your office for the Language Proficiency Test.

With 0.25 off for each wrong answer and sectional cut-offs, read when guessing pays before you set an attempt target for your weakest test.

Frequently asked questions

When is the next RBI Assistant exam date?

Not announced as of 20 October 2026. In the last cycle the advertisement came on 16 February 2026, the Preliminary on 11, 13 and 30 April 2026 and the Main on 7 June 2026, but each cycle's dates are set in its own notice.

Is there negative marking in RBI Assistant?

Yes. In both the Preliminary and the Main, a wrong answer takes away one fourth of a mark. A question left unanswered scores nothing.

Is there a sectional cut-off in RBI Assistant?

Yes. The Bank applies a cut-off on each test as well as on the total, in both stages, and fixes them after the exam. The advertisement does not print the percentages.

What is the Language Proficiency Test in RBI Assistant?

A mandatory, qualifying test in the official or local language of the State of the office you applied for, held at the Bank's regional offices. About twice the vacancies are called for it on the Main aggregate, and no one is exempted.

What is the RBI Assistant age limit?

In the last cycle, 20 to 28 years on 1 February 2026, with the relaxations the advertisement lists. Check the next advertisement for its own reference date.

Can I write RBI Assistant in Hindi?

Tests other than English are shown in English and in the language chosen for the office, which includes Hindi. The English Language tests are in English only.
