| Stage | Paper | Questions | Marks | Time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Prelims | Paper I: General Studies | 100 | 300 | 2 hours |
| Prelims | Paper II: General Aptitude Test (qualifying) | 100 | 300 | 2 hours |

Prelims marking: the plan prints the formula 3R − W: 3 marks for a right answer, 1 off for a wrong one, and nothing for a blank. Paper II is qualifying only; the call for the mains uses Paper I marks, up to 20 times the vacancies by category. You need at least 40% in each paper (30% for SC, ST, OBC, EWS and candidates with disability).
Mains and final merit: six compulsory descriptive papers of 1,500 marks plus an interview of 185, a total of 1,685. The same 40% / 30% minimum applies to each mains paper. Prelims marks are not added.
MPPSC syllabus
Paper I (General Studies) covers the history of India; history, culture and literature of Madhya Pradesh; geography of India and of Madhya Pradesh; the constitutional system of India and MP; the economy of India and MP; science, environment and health; information and communication technology; the tribes of Madhya Pradesh; and international, national and MP events.
Paper II (General Aptitude Test) covers comprehension, communication, logical reasoning, decision making, general mental ability, basic numeracy and data interpretation up to Class X, and Hindi comprehension up to Class X from a Hindi passage with no English translation.

A plan for the months ahead
If you qualified the 2026 prelims, your work now is mains answer writing: one GS part a day, timed, with the word limits of the plan (about 20, 60 and 200 words), and one Hindi essay a week.
If you are aiming at the next prelims, work in six-week blocks until the advertisement is out:
- Weeks 1 and 2: Madhya Pradesh: history, culture, geography, economy and tribes. Several Paper I headings are about the state, so they deserve their own fortnight.
- Weeks 3 and 4: Indian history, polity, economy and science. One full Paper I MPPSC mock test at the end of each week.
- Week 5: Paper II: one timed set every other day, including the Hindi passage. A 40% minimum here can still stop you.
- Week 6: Two full mocks on one day, as in the real exam, and a review of every wrong answer using how to analyse a mock test.
With +3 and −1, a guess where you can rule out even one option has a positive expected score; negative marking: when to guess shows the arithmetic.
